What is the big deal of meeting the girl's or the boy's parents? Normally when the guy goes to the girl's home what will happen? or when the girl goes to the guy's home what will happen?

The old fashion way once works this way.... when the man steps into the door step of the maiden's home, the maiden is not allowed to welcome the guy opps man they call him. Instead a maid would open the door leading the man to the stern looking father and the mother would be sitting next to him... before he is questioned on anything, he would be served tea..-> according to the chinese old fashion... opps... old traditional ways... then he would be questioned on his background and etc.. etc... etc(nie nak tengok bf anak perempuan ker nak tilik nasib ler?) then the "stern" looking old man will decide whether the daughter should come out to meet him again or not... if can meet then good news!! else too bad looks like he failed the interview... ps/ this is only one of the versions i heard may be other versions

girls meeting the parents

normally in the old fashion way, the girl only gets to meet them when the guy brings her home or if they are arrange for marriage...the parents will come to her home and watch how she served tea and other delicacies... (nie nak tengok menantu ker orang gaji nie).. then if the guy's parents like her they will say the delicacies she served is nice... else bye bye lor... hahhaha...

then the modern ways ler??
1. they meet the parents when they wan to show the person they are "on" with to their most important people in lives

2. the girl gets pregnant -> no choice de.. hv to ask mummy and daddy wat to do

3. then of course less formal Q&A... coz parents basically just wan to know more about the person their kids are on with

4. just a normal dinner at home or some sort of function -> definately nothing to be afraid of.. just eat and chew

tat's the modern way nothing complicated at all so in short nothing to be afraid but its normal to feel a little nervous though but do not over react...
